SUMMER ACTIVITIES

Looking for fun activities this summer to keep your young ones active and engaged?  Join us for the Open Parks program, with local Stoneham community partners coming together to provide a variety of completely free programming every morning from July 1-August 23, followed by complimentary lunch.  Check out the calendar of scheduled activities to register now, and get in on the fun!

Friends of the Fells - Guided Hike in the Middlesex Fells
Description:
Join Friends of the Fells to explore the forest, meadows, streams, and ponds of our state park! We'll traverse a variety of trails, check out cool plants, and maybe even glimpse some wildlife. We may even get a chance to do some trail work like removing invasive plants and clearing blocked trails and water ditches. Be sure to bring a reusable water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, a hat, and bugspray. Good hiking boots or sneakers are required. Long pants and tall socks are highly recommended to prevent tick or poison ivy exposure.
Age range: 10 and up

Stoneham Senior Center - Arts and Crafts with the Senior Center
Description: Get hands-on instruction and learn crafts such as bead crocheting, magnets, collage making, tea light mason jars, and mini garden gnome ornaments.
Age range: 10-12

Stoneham TV
Description: Stoneham TV will sponsor creative Friday mornings during the Stoneham Open Parks program at South School.  Students will create commercials, interviews, movie trailers, and much more!  Learn how to use video cameras, microphones and other production equipment to make your ideas come to life.

Greater Boston Stage Company - GBSC's Center Stage!
Description: GBSC's Center Stage! uses different weekly themes to introduce young artists to acting, dancing, singing, and design in a fun and supportive environment! Each day, students are exposed to various theatrical techniques, exercises, and games to expand their confidence and imagination.
Age range: 6-9 (Mondays), 10-12 (Wednesdays)

FAQs
Are all activities free? Yes! All activities under the Open Parks program are completely free to attend.

Are all meals free? Yes! Anyone under the age of 18 can eat for free at 11pm, even if they did not participate in the activity.

Is Open Parks only available to families from Stoneham? No, the Open Parks program is open to anyone who would like to attend!

Do I need to register before an activity? Registration links are available on the calendar of activities for Open Parks, as well as the waiver forms that must be completed in order to have your child participate in the activities. You may arrive the morning of the event without registering online, but will still need to complete the forms before participating.  Please note that the registration may need to be done through one of our community partners’ online portals depending on the day.

Are parents/guardians required to stay with the children participating in the activities? Parents/guardians may or may not be required to stay with children depending on the activity. Please check the details for each day of Open Parks on our calendar above to confirm if you will be required to stay with your child. Please note that even if you are not required to accompany your child, you are welcome to stay at the location where the activity is taking place.

What will happen if an activity is canceled due to weather conditions? Most of our activities this summer will be taking place inside, however if weather directly conflicts with the planned program, a notice will be posted on the official Open Parks Facebook-LINK (here).

What if I need to contact someone at the Open Parks activity? If you have any questions or need to contact an on-site staff member for any reason, you can call 781-835-9510.
